Dear Friends and Members of the Sydney Schubert Society,
After a truly magnificent concert on April 26 by the Streeton Trio which opened our 2015 Schubertiade season, I hope you will join the Schubert society on July 5 at 2.30 at St. Peters Presbyterian Church, where we will present the splendid Enigma Quartet with the well-known Sydney clarinettist Francesco Celata. These superb artists have featured in our Schubertiades in the past to much acclaim. On Sunday July 5, they will perform Viennese Classics: Haydn’s string quartet C major op 74, Mozart’s immortal A major Clarinet Quintet and the haunting A minor String Quartet by Schubert D 804, also known as the “Rosamunde” Quartet on account of Schubert’s use of his own incidental music from 1823 in this work.
I include a flyer with all relevant information with this letter and hope you will find the opportunity also to pass this on to family and friends. We rely on the active support of members and Schubert enthusiasts. Only this can ensure that the Schubert Society, in existence since can continue to present its very special concerts into the future.
I also would like to remind you to have a look at our website, www.sydneyschubertsociety.com which features all Schubertiades for 2015. Do make a special note about August 16, when pianist Geoffrey Saba will return to the Sydney Schubert Society at the Goethe Institute for our most ambitious Schubertiade yet: Geoffrey will perform “Die Schöne Müllerin” with tenor Dominic Walsh and also an all-Schubert piano recital including two Sonatas (B major D 575 and c minor D 958) as well as some shorter works by Schubert. This event will be a must for any Schubert lover. Finally, please be reminded to tune into Fine Music 102.5 on every fourth Saturday of the month at 6 pm when our committee member Ross Hayes presents his informative and inspiring Schubert broadcast.
I hope you are able to join the Enigma Quartet and Francesco Celata for their performance on Sunday July 5commencing at 2.30 pm at St. Peters Presbyterian Church, North Sydney.
